The Key To Exercise

There are some people out there who loathe exercise. There are others who practically live in the gym. If you are someone who doesn’t particularly like the idea of going to the gym, or maybe there is something that’s stopping you from doing high impact exercise. The key to losing weight through exercise is to find a form of exercise that you actually enjoy doing. Fact is if you don’t like doing something – chances are, you won’t want to do it. You’ll get discouraged, you’ll give up and then you’ll be hard on yourself for feeling like a failure.

Learn your options. Maybe doing jumping jacks or running is not your thing. And that’s okay! Think to yourself, what do you like to do that keeps your body moving? You don’t have to have an intense workout 7 days a week. Slow and steady wins the race too. Stop looking for the next fad diet. First, you need to get a hold on your food intake, that is the biggest, most important step to take. Once you’ve got that down pat, then start considering working out.

Maybe some low impact yoga which nourishes the mind, body, and soul. Maybe ride a bike to work if your commute isn’t too long. Going for a daily 30-60 minute walk. Taking a swimming or Zumba course. A spin class. The possibilities are endless. Don’t fret over doing a back breaking exercise routine that you do not look forward to. That won’t work for you. Find something you like that gets you moving for 30-60 minutes a day.

Be consistent. If you’ve chosen to walk for 60 minutes a day, DO IT! Every day! If it’s raining, don’t use that as an excuse. Grab an umbrella and get your butt out that door! Take your 30 lunch break and walk then, if you have an hour lunch – lucky you – take your walk at that time. Not only are you getting your day in, but walking on your lunch can also help you avoid that 3pm drowsiness.

Exercising doesn’t have to be a dreary experience. It’s not something you should loathe or fear. If you find something you enjoy, you’ll WANT to do it and that will make it so much easier for you in the end, and your chances of successfully losing weight will increase dramatically!
