We are all hearing about the “White Oscars” and the issues of racism. I get it, I really do. Racism is one of the most disgusting learned behaviors of the human race. It is something I personally cannot wrap my head around. I just don’t understand it. What does it matter the color of someones skin? It does not define who you are as a human being. In the end, we are all the same on the inside. It amazes me even that this day and age the issue is racism is still such a hot topic. But alas.. it is.
Now, I don’t want to downplay the seriousness of racism – because yes, it is a serious issue. However, I can’t help but wonder… what would happen if we all got as riled up about the systematic poisoning and destruction of our planet as we do about racism. How quickly things would change?
I love how ignorant and blind-sighted we have become (sense my sarcasm). However, it’s not entirely our fault. The Government and big corps put an enormous amount of time, money and effort into media blackout when it comes to the really important things like pollution, factory farming, the destruction of our planet, climate change, GMOs and corporate greed. They will do whatever it takes to keep us shrouded, to keep us side-tracked with celebrities and the newest fads and gadgets. They try to keep us in a constant state of distraction so that we don’t actually see what is going on backstage.
Thankfully and due mostly to social media, people are starting to wake up and the veil is being lifted. We are starting (slow but surely) to notice that something is really wrong here. We need to crush racism yes, but we also need to bring to light the other important issues that are directly affecting the future survival of our species as a whole.
I was rather disturbed by a poll done by a local TV station yesterday where they asked the question “What do you think is the cause of childhood obesity? Too much sugar or too much screen time” and an overwhelming 67% thought the problem was too much screen time. I was almost yelling at my own computer screen just how ridiculous that is! How uneducated can we really be?? I took a screen shot of that poll (seen below) because I was just so flabbergasted that people actually think the problem is screen time… NO!! Do your research people! Sugar is the biggest global addiction in the world and it’s killing us all.
Sounds over dramatic, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, it’s really not.
This tunnel vision we have adopted needs to disappear. We really need full transparency here. We need to look at what we are doing to our planet. Plowing down trees at the rate of 48 football fields per minute. GMO crops designed to kill whatever eats it (including us), pesticides causing birth defects and learning disabilities, the rapid decline in bees and butterflies… we dismiss this one completely without the realization that without bees, mankind has an estimated 4 years before we end up extinct as well… 4 years! That’s it. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be no more fresh water in the world available for us to drink. What then? We are on an insanely steep decline towards extinction and yet, no one is talking about this!!! Why??
Money. Greed. Politics.
That’s why…. but like they say “if you really think the environment is less important than the economy… try holding your breath while counting you’re money.”
ONLY AFTER THE LAST TREE HAS BEEN CUT DOWN,
THE LAST RIVER HAS BEEN POISONED AND THE
LAST FISH CAUGHT, ONLY THEN WILL YOU FIND THAT
MONEY CANNOT BE EATEN.
