Love Yourself… I Dare You!

One of the most difficult things, yet the most important thing you can do for your health is to love yourself. I know what your thinking… what does loving yourself have to do with your health?

We live in a world where photos are tweaked to unrealistic proportions, the catwalk is full of anorexia looking models. On TV we are fed “look like this, wear this, smell like this, eat this, drive that – and they will LOVE you!” – but what we don’t realize is that it’s not the love from others that will gain us true happiness. Loving yourself, and not caring so much of what other people think – that is where you will find happiness.

So what does this have to do with your health? When you truly (and I mean truly) love yourself – you gain the understanding that you body gives you life. Without it, you are nothing. You need to take the absolute best care of the one thing that keeps you alive. If you love yourself, you’ll take extremely good care of your body – by being careful what you put into your body. I’m talking about eating a whole food, plant based diet.

“When you like a flower, you just pluck it.
But when you love a flower, you water it daily..!
One who understand this, understands Life…”

One of my favorite explanations of this is from the book “How Not To Die” by Dr. Michael Greger (which I highly recommend to anyone- it’s amazing, really!)

He states his analogy like this…

“Given the right conditions, the body heals itself. If you whack your shin really hard on a coffee table, it can get red, swollen, and painful. But your shin will heal naturally if you just stand back and let your body work its magic. But what if you kept whacking it in the same place three times a day—say, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner? It would never heal.

You could go to your doctor and complain that your shin hurts. “No problem,” he or she might say, whipping out a pad to write you a prescription for painkillers. You’d go back home, still whacking your shin three times a day, but the pain pills would make it feel so much better. Thank heavens for modern medicine! That’s what happens when people take nitroglycerin for chest pain. Medicine can offer tremendous relief, but it’s not doing anything to treat the underlying cause. Your body wants to regain its health if you let it. But if you keep reinjuring yourself three times a day, you interrupt the healing process…”

The point of this is – if you keep hurting your body by the foods you eat, your body never truly heals itself the way it should. This is how we end up with heart disease, liver disease, diabetes and cancer.

Now, what if I told you that eating a whole food, plant based diet has been scientifically PROVEN to not only help cure but also REVERSE the damage caused by these diseases. We don’t see (or simply refuse to see) the connection between the food we eat and the damage it is causing to our bodies.
